Palm Pistol for People With Disabilities?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Well now! This is a far cry from my usual wheelchair post. Actually, I’m not quite sure how to go about this so I’ll just toss up some of the sellers information.

Image of hand holding a Palm PistolAccording to the seller, Constitution Arms- "The Palm Pistol is an ergonomically innovative single shot double action only defensive firearm chambered in 9mm that may be fired using either hand without regard to orientation of the stock. Suited for home defense, concealed carry or as a backup gun. It is also ideal for seniors, disabled or others who may have limited strength or manual dexterity."

Palm Pistol is a self defense only weapon that can be triggered by the users thumb. The stock is universal in shape making it equally potent regardless of which paw does the holding. Ambidextrous folks should really enjoy that feature.

Personally I have never owned a pistol. If I ever thought I needed to pack I would probably go for something big and intimidating. You know, something physically impressive enough to get assailants running without having to ever use it. Dirty Harry’s 44 mag comes to mind but something like that would probably scare me as much as it would my assailants. I guess Palm Pistol is a modern day spin up of the Derringer disguised as an adaptive device.

I can’t help but conjure up some weird scenarios involving this device. You know, “Back off! Don’t make me draw my adapted defensive weapon”, or in the words of Dirty Harry himself- “I know what you’re thinking. “Did he fire one shot or none?” Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a Palm Pistol, the most adaptive handgun in the world, you’ve got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?”

All kidding aside, I’m sure some people may find a need for an adaptive defensive weapon. You can get more information at:

Friday, September 26th, 2008

While Hurricane Ike continues to fall off of the media’s radar, thousands of young and old people with disabilities continue their struggle to maintain their well-being.

“While other public and private agencies are trying to address the less complex needs of the general population, my colleagues and I are trying to address the specific needs of people with disabilities who were affected by Hurricane Ike. ”

You Revived The Americans with Disabilities Act

Saturday, September 13th, 2008

As most of you may already know the revision of the Americans with Disabilities Act made it through the Senate unanimously on 09/11/08.

“This Act will revive the protections of the ADA that have been eroded by the courts. It will help all Americans with disabilities,”
Paul Tobin, President, United Spinal Association
http://www.unitedspinal.org

While our Senators get a pat on the back for hearing their constituents on this issue, the real credit goes to the grass roots people who came out in large numbers and with a unified voice so loud that they were heard way up on The Hill.

I was fortunate enough to work with United Spinal on their campaign agenda and was at the helm of the online technology that allowed people to come to the site and send emails and faxes to the honorable crowd up on The Hill. Checking the cluster data was inspiring. People from all parts of the country came to the site and sent emails to their Senators. They spoke with one voice and with great conviction.

To those of you who pitched in and shouldered the burden of responsibility for change- A most sincere well done, and a well earned tip of the hat to you all. You did it!
