A wheelchair is A wheelchair is A wheelchair?

OK, if you insist it is. That will put you right in step with most of the rest of the world.

It’s quite amazing how most people still don’t realize the diversity of wheelchairs and mobility scooters available out there. Sure, they all have wheels, and they all have something or other to sit in but that’s where it ends.

Whether for fun or to ease the daily hump, the right wheelchair can make all the difference in the world. Shh, don’t tell Medicare or Medicaid that, you wouldn’t want to upset them.

Enjoy the slideshow, gobble up some eye-candy, and here’s hoping that your butt lands in the ride of your choice.

Think All Wheelchairs Are The Same?

Your insurance company might.
Medicare & Medicaid are clueless.
The general public is out of it.
Many wheelchair users don’t know.
But you know don’t you?

It’s all about choices!

ENJOY THE RIDE

Zigmeister, Great slide show, but I think you left out the Hoveround. But that’s OK because us insomniacs see it advertised every night at 3 AM on the boob tube. Also, I love the beach wheelchair, the one with the real big tires. I got into one, or I should say, I was placed into one by two lifeguards some years ago at Jones Beach on Long Island. They placed me and my lady friend right down by the water. I couldn’t do much in it, but it was still “way cool.”

Hey Moakster, glad to have you onboard! You need to get to bed earlier so that you can sit through things like this slide show without falling asleep. There are 55 slides in there and Hoveround is number 46 or so. But I understand. Wheelchairs actually do start looking the same to someone who has used them for as long as you have.
    Nice hearing from you.

  3. Cool! No wonder my 5 year old nephew wants one! One thing is for sure, wheelchairs have come a long way! Keep up the good work getting the word out!

Took me forever to figure out that it was a slide show…

  5. Charles A. Bailey says:

I see you left out the center drive wheel chairs. Very good, they ought to outlawed.

    Zig,
I’d really like the ‘tank’ chair for an afternoon, admittedly just for fun! I was ‘ramping up’ (accidental pun here) to seek access to an IBOT before they stopped producing new ones. I’m hoping the technology is not lost due to reimbursement problems but reemerges in another form.

Liz, loved this one liner from your site- "I was still the same person I was ten months before, I was just sitting down!"

Keep up the good work and keep getting the word out.

  8. Elaine says:

Some of those wheelchairs really looked coll but at my age I think I will stick with my Quickie Revolution

  9. Ziggi says:

There ya go. That’s what it’s about, choices. Whatever works for you.

  10. Charlie Roman says:

Great job covering the spectrum. Where’s my favorite? The Quickie P300.

  11. Dorothy Duda says:

Who can afford to purchase special made chairs? They are interesting, but one of the needs is very light weight besides flexibility and then of course one needs the space in which to maneuver the chair, which most apartments & homes do not have.
    Dream on.

  12. Paula Rigney says:

Liked the one with hydraulics. That way I can see at concerts when everyone stands in front of you. At it seems like everywhere I go, the tallest people in the whole crowd are the ones standing in front of me.

great show. I would love one of those large tired one’s for beach travel and a rugged one for hiking along trails. Then I would be doing what I used to do and loved to do! Everyone should have 3 or 4 chairs! ellie
