A reader left a comment on the previous Night Riding post regarding the SmartSensor by Amigo. It’s really the type of product worth writing about.
SmartSensor was designed by Amigo Mobility International for use on their mobility scooters for purposes of avoiding collisions and thereby making for a safer environment and a safer user experience.
“During sensor activation, the Amigo POV/scooter is safely limited to a top speed of 2.3 mph indoors and designed to avoid pedestrian impact. Detecting an individual up to 30 inches ahead, the system gently slows forward speed bringing driver to a gradual stop safe from impact. “
For those not familiar with Amigo International, they are a mobility scooter manufacturer who pretty much pioneered the scooter market back in the late sixties by introducing a rather unique (for its time) little Front Drive scooter. It was unique in that it was very small, extremely agile and very maneuverable. It was quite the indoor machine in a world full of scooters that were near the size of a small golf cart. A few years later they were first out with an electric shopping cart that could be used in supermarkets and stores.
I was lucky enough to do some testing on their early model way, way, way back. I can still remember having loads of fun putting the nimble little machine through its paces. Ahh, the good old days. So much simpler then.
