Her Home Is Her Prison

A disheartening story from Canada of a young couple both with a disability-
Trapped in her apartment for a fifth straight month by her wheelchair and still waiting for help that Alberta’s premier promised her, Lisa Kiss writes beautiful poetry and waits for someone to care.
They are each others caregivers but that’s not enough to keep their lives from unraveling:
“But now I haven’t been out of the house since July and I’m really kind of scared of it. It’s like I’ve been in prison, unlawfully confined. I’m Marty’s caregiver and he’s mine. And he has MS and I’m declining quickly. I’m only 35 and Marty’s only 40. But I feel like I’m 90 and he’s 100.”
This couple has been selling off their clothes in order to survive. A promise by Premier Stelmach to investigate their situation has yielded no action to date.
