Shock Absorbing All Terrain Sports Crutch

Soccer player using Sidestix crutchesMost excellent! Another upgrade to our old friend and supporter, the crutch.

Crutch design has been generally dormant for a number of years. The last few years however has witnessed at least some innovations on the age old design.

The Sidestix crutch is one of those and it takes quite a unique turn in attempting to allow crutch users to access environments and activities that are not customarily crutch friendly. As a matter of fact some of them are downright hostile.

SideStix provides opportunities to those of us on crutches, who would otherwise be constrained to the more conventional paths in life.

SideStix™ is the first shock absorbent sports crutch with attachable ‘feet’ for a variety of terrains. It has been designed by Sarah Doherty, Occupational Therapist and Kerith Perreur-Lloyd, Structural Technologist.

SideStix Ventures developed the first and only damper shock absorbent crutches with attachable tips for a variety of terrains from neighbourhood streets to snow covered mountains. Researched, designed and tested “by users for users” for over seven years.

Some features:

  • Custom built, to suit your weight & height.
  • Damper shock absorbing system which reflects the elasticity of tendons, ligaments and fluids between the joints.
  • Ergonomic grip supports the dynamic weight- bearing areas of your hand.
  • The handle can accept a range of grips, including standard bicycle grips & crutch grips.
  • Ball and socket ‘foot-joint’ rotates and articulates like an ankle, providing articulation in all directions.
  • Interchangeable tips are available to enable the user to access terrain that up till now has been difficult or impossible.

  1. Hi Ziggi,
We really appreciate you covering SideStix! Traditionally crutches have been produced without the end user in mind and we are working hard to change that. I can see we follow each other on Twitter (@sidestix), and wanted to let you know we are also available on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/SideStix).

(p.s. the final link should actually be “SideStix”)

Look forward to hearing more from you!

    Hey James,
Your Sidestix actually caught my attention when you followed on Twitter. Don’t know how I missed them up until now??? Fixed the typo at bottom.
