Night Riding Just Became Safer For Wheelchair Users

It’s about time! Wheelchair users who are night riders are presented with a number of issues. High on the list is the ability to be seen by motorists and walkers alike.

It’s also nice to see that aesthetics have also been considered. In other words, these lights look very cool.

Pictured to the left is Amber light kit #1 from Wheelchair FX which generates an amber light that is easy for motorists and pedestrians to spot.

I’m not going to dwell on the safety issues related to night riding. We all know the enherent dangers involved and we all understand that it’s a real world out there and often times one must do what one needs to do in order to get things done.

  1. Beside the issue of lighting, impact avoidance systems have become a higher priority for wheelchair and Mobility Scooter users, especially at night. The only manufacturer with a safety system that avoids impacts day or night is Amigo Mobility with their Smart Sensor.
