After a serious vehicle accident in which a wheelchair user was killed, Associated Press undertook a study to determine how many states require that wheelchair users wear seat belts while being transported in a vehicle.

The short article is cloudy but appears to be referring to a seat belt for the person in the wheelchair and not a tie-down for the wheelchair itself.

Here’s what they found:

Five states – Arkansas, Georgia, Minnesota, Washington and Wisconsin – require both wheelchairs and their users to be secured on paratransit buses, which take disabled people to work and doctor’s offices.
