Permobil Introduces C350 Rear Wheel Drive Power Wheelchair

Permobil rolled out another rear wheeler in this one. It is tough mentioning rear wheel drive and Permobil in the same breath since Permobil has for many years dominated the high end front wheel drive market.

Okay, things change. So while most of the makers have moved to mid/center-wheel drive powered wheelchairs, Permobil is carving out a chunk of the abandoned rear wheel market. That’s actually a good thing. There are many users out there who swear by the reliability of rear wheel drive and the sturdy 4 pole motors that drive many of these machines.

Here’s the manufacturer’s spin on these new wheels:

“the C350 is somewhere between a low-rider with a seat-to-floor height of 18.25″ and a hot rod with two different speed packages of up to 6.5 MPH.”

I’m going to guess that Permobil is slightly overstating the hot rod attributes. 6.5 mph is not going to burn a whole lot of rubber or blow away the speedsters out there. But it is a respectable number for a pavement cruiser.

Some specs coming at you:

  • Group 14 batteries.
  • 8 amp battery charger.
  • Base length without legrests 36.5″
  • Wheelchair weight with batteries 240 lbs.
  • 4 pole motors.
  • Seat width 17″ to 18″ adjustable.
  • Seat depth 16″ to 22″ adjustable.
  • Back height 14″ to 29″.
  • R-Net electronics.

You can catch the C350 at the Permobil web site.
