Quovis For Wheelchair Users

Quovis is a low speed vehicle designed to be driven from a wheelchair. Manufactured by Vexel Automoción of Spain, the vehicle is now available for sale in the USA.

Vexel Automotion has teamed with EMC to create additional control adaptations for clients that have range of motion challenges. On top of hand controls this cuddly mover comes with a 505 cc gas fueled engine, one forward and one reverse gear, tubular steel frame, wheelchair tie-down, a set of Michelins, and more.

Low speed vehicles like this have been in use in Europe for some time now and are allowed on all public streets. In the USA there are a few gliches imposed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)-

  • A low-speed vehicle may be operated only on streets where the posted speed limit is 35 miles per hour or less. This does not prohibit a low-speed vehicle from crossing a road or street at an intersection where the road or street has a posted speed limit of more than 35 miles per hour.
  • A low-speed vehicle must be registered and insured and must display a license plate.
  • Any person operating a low-speed vehicle must have in his or her possession a valid driver’s license.

These restrictions are not that bad. It will certainly keep you on the road in most urban areas, villages, and hamlets. As far as the open road goes, well, it won’t be that open to you. Hey, I don’t make the rules!

Anyway, the Quovis is sure cute enough and looks like it might be a little bundle of fun.
