Stuff On The Floor And Wheelchairs Don’t Always Mix But It Can Be Fun

Wow Wee Robo ScooperWhat’s a real pain for many wheelchair users? Stuff on the floor that has to be chased down and scooped up from within a wheelchair.

Here’s a really cool autonomous robot that not only looks like a bunch of fun but also helps pick up around the house. It’s the Roboscooper from Wow Wee. Roboscooper runs laps around your house, identifies stuff on the floor, scoops it up, and stores it in it’s hopper-like rear end.

There’s only one small problem, it can only pick up very light items. Nonetheless, it looks like some great fun and certainly has potential for future enhancements.

Roboscooper utilezes infrared sensors to spot stuff on the floor from a range of 12 feet away. Another set of sensors in the hands are utilized for purposes of controlling pickup.

Here’s what the manufacturer says:

Have him carry or scoop your favorite things around the house. In Autonomous mode he’ll grab things he sees or use the remote controller to make him pick up lightweight objects! After a long day working, Roboscooper loves to whack things with his arms. With lots of funny comments, modes and full driving control, Roboscooper is always ready to have fun!

Some more from CoolThings.com:

Additional sight sensors on the hands allow it to recognize when it has littered objects within range, which it promptly picks up and deposits into the back-mounted loading area. Alternatively, you can set it to whack strewn items to the side, in case you’re just looking to wreak havoc in your roommate’s meticulous cityscape model. When it encounters objects weighing over an ounce or it gets stuck in any position, the robot plays a preset message asking for some help.

Even though Roboscooper may be limited by it’s weight lifting ability, its price is certainly not a limitiation. Roboscooper sells for $69.95. Not bad for a lot of fun and some lightweight cleanup.
