Take control of that power wheelchair

Disappointed in the high-tech and cutting edge power wheelchair that you thought would turn your life around? I get loads of complaints about new power wheelchairs that perform poorly, can’t get out of their own way, are difficult to control, and in general make you regret dumping that old cruiser you previously had.

Stop cursing long enough to give your wheelchair technician a call. Many of today’s power wheelchairs come with programmable controllers. Plug the programmer into the controller and things like speed, joystick sensitivity, braking, acceleration, turning speed, tracking, and scores of other tweaks are easily accomplished.

A hint- New power wheelchairs come with generic middle of the road settings. Have the controller custom programmed to you and to your environment not to the dealer’s technician and showroom.

In the old days, one use to be able to get a controller but now you get the BS of “The manufacture doesn’t sell them…” That’s what I got when trying to get a programmer for my past 2 chairs. It’s apparently an industry thing. But we the dealer have one, I guess they get it free, and will be glad to come out and bill to get you programmed as if the technician knows what he’s doing. This is another case of making a profit in the name of safety not practicality.

How would you able body people feel if you HAD to take your car back to the dealer for every little adjustment? Need your seat adjusted, I’m sorry, the dealer will have to do that!
