The Mark of Time

It’s odd how in our minds we mark off time. The things we associate with different events in our lives and how vividly the memories tied to those events can return.

We’re all different and I would imagine that we all index our memories differently. My own are most vivid when triggered by things related to a dear departed relative or old friend.

I normally can’t remember what I had for breakfast but mention the name of an in-tight departed relative or pal, especially those that treated me with unusual kindness, and the face, the place, and the human texture of the person return. Not as I saw them last, but as I liked them best.

It’s actually a wonderful thing to have these triggers that allow us to remember the good things, and sometimes the bad as well. It’s equally wonderful knowing that we can create memories that others will cherish.

What we do, how we help, our concern for those in trouble or in need, a kind word or a helping hand, can create lasting memories. What a divine gift we all have. The ability to remain in the minds of others.

With the tough economic times and the government cutting funding, many not-for-profit organizations are finding it difficult to carry out the good work or fight the good fight. Consider doing a bit of volunteer work for your charity of choice. It’s amazingly rewarding and you may just create a few memories for others to cherish.
