I have met and have come to know many former pilots over the years. Most were Vietnam vets who were injured in combat. All claimed to miss flying more than walking.
It was often a saddening experience talking to them. The topic of conversation would invariably turn to flying. At those times you could feel the emotion as they spoke of their piloting past. What horrible emotions they must have been. To be able to fly and then to fly no more. Something most of us can not begin to understand.
For those disabled pilots who long to fly again and for those people with disabilities who dream of doing so some day- A project to develop the first airplane that can be piloted from a wheelchair has been undertaken. The Sky Chairiot Project hopes to bring enough talent, sponsors, and donors together to make this adapted airplane a reality.
Go over to the Sky Chairiot Project and have a look. And help out if you can.
