Wheelchair scammer sacked in Sacramento

It looks like another wheelchair scammer is tucked away behind bars. This one drew two years and nine months in the slammer. The scam involved a power wheelchair and scooter dealer in Sacremento who nailed Medicare and Medi-Cal for close to $170,000.00 in a shuffle that played one funder against the other. Here’s how this slick deal was played- From Sacbee.com

"The indictment said that Vogelsang took fraudulent advantage of the fact that, in cases where Medicare has rejected the claim of a provider and the claim meets the Medi-Cal criteria, Medi-Cal will pay 100 percent of the item. Where Medicare accepts a claim, it pays 80 percent of the item and, if Medi-Cal criteria are met, it will pay the remaining 20 percent. Evidence at trial showed Vogelsang would deliberately submit an incorrect claim to Medicare, which would reject it. He would then bill Medi-Cal for the equipment and receive 100 percent of its value. Then he would submit a correct claim to Medicare and collect 80 percent of the equipment’s value."
