Jillian from Pine River,MN, USA submitted this review on June 27th 2015 at 09:48 AM. Jillian is an end user who has six months to a year of experience with the product.
Strengths:Torso area is well fitted when positioned correctly.
Weaknesses:The seat cushion is not fitted to me correctly causing me leg to spasm and me to sweat when I am sitting in the seat. Also, the sides of my legs rest hard against the foot rest bars leaving indentations in my legs. The hardware on the back has to be constantly readjusted because it slips out of place. The constant readjusting takes a lot of time and causes a lot of wear and tear on hardware. Taking the chair aparat or putting it back together takes at least 15 minuets each time, that is, if the hardware does not slip out of place.
Comments:I have had my RIDE Design seating system for about 2 years. I've only used the seating system about six months total. A section of the back cushion has busted off and the cover is worn away in multiple places. When I am not using my RIDE system I use my 5 year old Aspen Seating system. When the techs installed the hardware to the canes of my wheelchair they caused structural damage to a cane. Eventually the cane busted, on a Friday night away from home. My husband was able to replace the cane by taking one from an old wheelchair. I drive a car. It is impossible for me to use this seating system independently or even without my husband. I would not recommend this system to anyone.

Ron from Irvine, CA USA submitted this review on July 25th 2010 at 07:32 PM. Ron is an end user who has over five years of experience with the product.
Strengths:Comfortable, durable, easy to clean, no sign of breakdown or support after heavy use for five years+. Skin remains dry, no problems with breakdown, pressure, redness since sitting in it the first time. This cushion saved (literally!) my life.
Weaknesses:The cost was scary at first, but with every day I live without a seating or breakdown issue I am reminded of just what a valuable investment I made for my family and I. A years worth of medical costs associated with repeated breakdown and infection paid for it. The life I now live without fear of another problem makes the decision priceless.
Comments:In 2005 I was faced with deciding my future. I had spent 12 weeks in bed and was looking at several more months, possible flap surgery, and loss of my job. I had a stage III ulcer on my IT that measured 5cm wide by 7cm long, and ranged 6-8mm in depth. Thats when I found an article on Aspen Seating. Three days later, my wife and I drove from S. California to Denver for an eval. The drive was horrible, sweating the entire way, knowing I was making the wound worse and risking my life. From the beginning we were treated with great care, compassion, and a commitment to do their best to solve my problems. After a couple days I had my cushion. We were told to stay in Denver and spend a few days sitting gradually and to return for an adjustment session. A few adjustments were made and we were allowed to go home. In all, we spent eight days with the Ride Designs team.

What's so amazing is that on the very first day I noticed a difference. My sweating nearly stopped, my pants were dry (this was new!), and the redness around the wound had been reduced dramatically. Within two days the wound, though quite bad, actually looked better. My wife used the term, "...it looks cooler...not so angry!" The drive home was a big difference with virtually no sweating problems. I returned to work a week later, and within 10-12 weeks my wounds were completely healed with healthy pink tissue and no complications. The entire time I went to work daily (college instructor and track & field coach), spent 14-18 hrs. a day in my chair, traveled on weekends, and lived life fully. I am convinced the cushion system, theory behind it, and the expert staff and professionals are responsible for making it happen. If you have seating problems or want to avoid them, contact Ride Designs or Aspen Seating today. I'm a 6'5", 260lb. C-5 Complete Quadriplegic. My email is rkamaka@mtsac.edu, and I welcome further questions.

Steve from Canada submitted this review on October 8th 2008 at 02:31 PM. Steve is an end user who has six months to a year of experience with the product.
Strengths:Comfort, useability, seating duration. I've used all the cushions out there, or close to it, this is the clear winner, easily, nothing is close. With other cushions I could sit for only X amount of time, with this cushion you do not even need to think of that.
Weaknesses:none.
Comments:The Ride is expensive. Do what you have to do to get one, look for funding sources or save up money yourself.

Jim from Michigan submitted this review on September 11th 2008 at 06:43 PM. Jim is an end user who has one to six months of experience with the product.
Strengths:I had severe sweating problems which led to skin breakdown. Tried Stimulite Classic with no improvement, experienced 50% improvement with Isch Dish. Had seating eval at U of M Seating Clinic and the Ride Design was recommended. I have had 0 sweating and no breakdowns in four months.
Weaknesses:Cushion is high in front and transfers are more difficult. Cushion cannot be safely modified to lower front as every component is required to bear weight in those areas which can tolerate pressure in order to completely remove pressure from sensitive areas.
Comments:Get an eval from a physical therapist with seating specialty. First they pressure map you, then a mold is made and shipped to Colorado where cushion is fabricated. Once received, you are pressure mapped on the finished product.

This cushion has really changed my quality of life as I can tolerate 20 hours straight sitting with no issues.

Emily from NJ submitted this review on May 24th 2007 at 03:41 PM. Emily is an end user who has over a year of experience with the product.
Strengths:lightweight, sleek design, product does what it is intended to do - evenly distribute weight.
Weaknesses:cover has worn more quickly than others I have used (stimulite, Jay, Avanti); zipper have broken, corners torn
Comments:this has been the best cushion i have used, as far as even pressure distribution. after having several small pressure sores on other cushions in the past, this one mapped out perfectly, showing no areas of redness. i have been pressure-sore free for over one year (12 years post sci; pressure sores developing at my 10th year post sci). i was sad to find out that they are no longer selling the R1 - off the shelf model- only making custom now, but website says you can still purchase an R1 -type cushion under the custom line

Strengths:Pressure distribution and posture
Weaknesses:None
Comments:This cushion is awesome. Prior to getting the Ride cushion I had tried everything; Jay 2 Deep Contour, Roho Nexus, Varilite and with all of them I would have redness at the end of the day. With the Ride I have stayed up for 20+hrs. with no pressure marks. I would highly reccomend it!!
