Trav from Prescott,AZ submitted this review on August 1st 2010 at 06:35 PM. Trav is an end user who has over a year of experience with the product.
Strengths:Fast, Fast, Fast. Good quality. Lean to steer is a great feeling of freedom. Great gearing makes it easy to ride even when I'm not in great shape. Can go around the block or around the state. I have been off road as well and does fine for dirt road/peet gravel trails.
Weaknesses:Can wobble a bit at high speed (top speed) but that is what the handlebar is for. Needs disc brakes to be competition grade. Tough to get into and out of because of the lean to steer. A bit bumpy with vibration but I have no other handbike to compare it to.
Comments:This cycle should only be considered for low level injuries (T-10 or so) because of the trunk strength required to steer etc. Also can be a handful if you lack strength or ability. I would recommend a turn to steer if you do not meet these demands. I would not recommend it for somewhat feeble non independent people.

Strengths:contrary to other reviews , I find my lightning to be very tough. In many years of riding I've never broken anything, though I once bent a crank handle while fooling around at high speed downhill.I bought it in 1999 and ride a lot.
Weaknesses:turning radius could be smaller, and it's a long way up from the seat(I walk on crutches)but transfering from bike to chair or park bench is easy.
Comments:An excellent handcycle, however i'd like to try some other makes which is not so easy to do.how do you access them?

Techguide says: David, you may want to try and hook up with a handcycling club in your area. Club members use a fairly diverse mix of cycles. I'm sure that members wouldn't mind you taking a short test ride on their handcycles.

John from San Francisco submitted this review on September 17th 2006 at 06:38 AM. John is an end user who has over a year of experience with the product.
Strengths:Very lightweight (26 lbs), easy acceleration, exceptionally stable and an overall well-designed layout.
Weaknesses:It can be difficult to set-up properly, the suspension system is pretty complex. Needs disc brake option, standard brakes overheat on long hills.
Comments:Far and away the most technically advanced handcycle on the market, with many speed records to its credit. Obviously, based on some of the other reviews here, if its not setup properly it will be very tempermental, even dangerous if settings are misaligned to the extreme. Perhaps not best everyday commute bike, but a wonderful sport/exercise/race bike.

Strengths:great hand grips and seating
Weaknesses:handcycle is very unstable, bottom drags on speed bumps, and the handcycle is very heavy and difficult to handle
Comments:handcycle instability caused me to roll in heavy traffic, I narrowly missed getting hit by a truck

Strengths:NONE
Weaknesses:Quick release rear wheels wobble, poor steering, very unstable. To many weak spots, if roads get rough it may break.
Comments:Unless they have improved this trike, I would not recomend it.
