Comments:This message is for Eddie in Stockton, Ca. Pegasus was bought out
by a company called Huntleigh Healthcare LLC. Their toll free number is 1-800-223-1218. I called their local repair depot in Foxboro Massachusetts, they were great. As stated in other comments, i hope aquasition by Huntleigh will reduce out of pocket repair costs.

Strengths:I have been unable to locate an Altern8 representative. All numbers I have are now disconnected. I need service or replacement on the air box. It is a wonderful product which I have used for ten years. I need help. Eddie
Weaknesses:
Comments:Need a service representative asap.

Suzanne from Brooklyn, New York submitted this review on February 1st 2008 at 01:11 PM. Suzanne is an end user who has over a year of experience with the product.
Strengths:I suffered from painful pressure sores before using the altern8. It's been almost 5 years and I haven't had any pain or sores. This is the best wheelchair product!
Weaknesses:Repairs are expensive.
Comments:A wonderful product for people who are susceptible to pressure sores. I sit long hours in my wheelchair and I am unable to move, so the seat does the moving for me.

Lynda from Sanford, NC USA submitted this review on January 3rd 2008 at 08:56 AM. Lynda is a care giver who has over a year of experience with the product.
Strengths:Quiet, effective, appeards to aid in the prevention of pressure sores.
Weaknesses:The only weakness that my friend mentions is that the cushion sometimes seems hard and she has to be lifted back in her chair a couple of times a day as it tends to move her forward in her chair.
Comments:My friend, a 76 year old quad, has used this product since 2003. She had surgery for pressure sores and when she was able to sit up, this was the cushion she used. It serves her well and she has not had any further problems. She sleeps on a Pegasus Airwaves mattress and is on a 12 hour program - 12 hours up on her cushion and 12 hours in bed on her mattress. It seems to be an effective program.

Johnnie from LA submitted this review on November 4th 2005 at 04:20 PM. Johnnie is an end user who has one to six months of experience with the product.
Strengths:Very good product that's comfortable and effective. The air cells that make up the cushion alternate approximately every 4 minutes. This allowed for good circulation and blood flow. I actually sat on mine while I had a pressure sore. It healed while the product was in use. The firmness of the inflated cells also helps with balance. The extremities are kept above the protective pads on the outsides of the cushion. The power unit fits nicely on the back of my Invacare power chair base and is very quiet. You get two rechargeable batteries with the cushion and each one is supposed to be good for 24 hours per charge. The batteries have improved since I acquired my unit. The base mounted easily and securely on my chair and I adapted to the cushion within a day or two. This is a sturdy and reliable product from a very reputable company. The technician and account executive who installed my cushion were very knowledgable. This is definitely a cushion for those who have a need for a product like this.
Weaknesses:Due to increase in pressure some dysreflexia was noticed at first.
Comments:I wish this product came in more than one size.

Paul from USA submitted this review on May 13th 2005 at 05:06 PM. Paul is an end user who has less than a month of experience with the product.
Strengths:The cover appears to be the type that can be cleaned easily
Weaknesses:The compressor box is huge, the size of a small trunk. A trailer pulled behind the wheelchair would be the only practical way to use this device. The tiny batteries after being fully charged powered the cushion for exactly 90 minutes before the warning came on to indicate the battery was 1/2 discharged. Wow what a technological wonder. Just the cushion portion of this monstrosity weighed in at 13 lbs and the steel plate bottom is designed to bolt onto the chair frame! The actual bladders are exactly 13 inches wide. The rest of the "pad" surface is an extremely hard foam that of course is constant pressure. The air bladders when inflated can only be described as ROCK HARD! The best way to describe the sensation of sitting on this cushion is sitting on 2 x 4's.
There is no control over the firmness of the pad. It has one preset and its called ROCK HARD.
Comments:Stay away from this thing and save yourself money and grief.
