DEANNA from COLORADO SPRINGS,COLORADO submitted this review on October 24th 2005 at 03:42 PM. DEANNA is an end user who has over a year of experience with the product.
Strengths:It is a comfortable chair and good looking. It does go over most terrain and living in rural area as Colorado I am always faced with challenging perdicerments, but thats about the end of my praising this chair.
Weaknesses:Many,Many,Many,I think possiblly I may have got a lemon chair, but I have had nothing but problems with this chair, this being my 2nd power chair it's not like I am a newbie to this world and don't know what I'm talking about either. This chair is jerky, tempermental, weak, fishtails, and will tip forward and throw you out very easily,etc.etc.etc.
Comments:I have had to change the batteries 3 times since 2002,after it has a full charge I am not able to even go shopping at Walmart without draining my batteries and having my care provider to push me back out to my Van and load me up,I can't even walk my dog farther than 1/8 of a mile or my batteries go dead,I've had the moter changed thinking that maybe that was the problem, the company where i purchased the chair hates to hear from me because they don't know what else to do,they are at wits end also. They even acused me of not knowing how to charge the batteries correctly so I told them to take the chair and charge them and then try taking the damn thing shopping and see for them selves, they did and i got a big apoligy from them,I hate this chair, and the worse thing about it is Medicaid bought it for me and it is now to late to do much about it through the company and Medicaid will only buy you a new chair every 5 years so I'm stuck not being able to go any where farther than a 2 block radias from my home or take my charger with me and wait and recharge the batteries again and again, and yes I did replace my charger also twice!!! I sure wish I had my old chair back but I donated it to a man in Mexico who would never have a chance to have a chair to get around in,I'm not sorry I did it,i just miss my old chair, the only problem I ever had with it was it didn't or wouldn't go over bumps like 2 inches high!!! But it would go for a week on a full charge! Life and it's little bummers!!!!

Signing off,
stuck in Colorado!

Rose from Ethridge, TN submitted this review on March 1st 2005 at 05:20 PM. Rose is a care giver who has over a year of experience with the product.
Strengths:reclines, leg lift, comfortable seat - was pleased to begin with - but problems then arrived.
Weaknesses:The tires went flat within a year and it was very hard finding anyone to help replace the tires. Then my husband was just riding the chair in the house and with an instant jerk it stopped and all the lights on the hand control lit up. After leaving it sit for a while, it would work again, but then without warning would just stop and all the lights would come on at once. The wheelchair has been in the shop for awhile and the loaner is not have the features or size my husband needs. In fact it will not even carry him up the ramp at the house.
Comments:For the cost of this chair, I would expect better service.

Ladny from Brighton, Michigan USA submitted this review on January 28th 2005 at 02:49 PM. Ladny is a care giver who has over a year of experience with the product.
Strengths:smooth running, nice looking, comfortable.
Weaknesses:Needs solid front tires, could go a little faster at top speed, can fishtail easily.
Comments:My son has had a CK2 for 5 years. It has been fairly reliable except for the tires. They should offer solid front tires. Also, if the electronics on the joy stick get damp then they quit working, so what are you suppose to do if it's raining out and you need to be outside?

Ed from Medina, NY submitted this review on November 14th 2004 at 10:55 AM. Ed is an end user who has over a year of experience with the product.
Strengths:I have had my C2K for over 4 years. I use it indoors, outdoors, in all kinds of weather, over all kinds of terrain. In that time, it has never let me down. It goes anywhere I want to go, through snow, mud, loose stones. It's incredibly comfortable and dependable. When it has needed repairs, parts availability and service has been excellent. The suspension makes riding over rough terrain a breeze. I have the full function joy stick that makes driving and operating the tilt, recline etc. very easy. I could go on and but simply put, I can't imagine a better chair.
Weaknesses:It has to be driven carefully going down steep inclines as it could tip forward. Not a problem though, if a little common sense is used. It's heavy, putting the lift on my van at its limit. I wish it had a higher top speed.
Comments:The C2K has allowed me to maintain a very busy quality of life without concern about breakdowns, terrain or location. I'm able to do everything from substitute teach, to officiate track meets with ease and comfort.

Todd from San Jose, California, United States submitted this review on October 9th 2004 at 01:57 PM. Todd is an end user who has over a year of experience with the product.
Strengths:Tilt
Recline
Seat Elevator
Easy to maneuver because of tight turning radius.
Powerful
Weaknesses:It breaks every couple months to the point where I have two take it into the shop be repaired.
Comments:I have had this chairman 2k since August of 2002. It is in awesome chair when it works however, I am always getting it fixed.

Traveling with the chair on an airplane causes parts of the chair to automatically untighten themselves. The chair really he is not good for traveling on an airplane.

Robert from New York, USA submitted this review on May 16th 2004 at 12:35 PM. Robert is an end user who has one to six months of experience with the product.
Strengths:comfortable, maneuverable, powerful
Weaknesses:costly, a high-tech chair that requires technical expertise for repair.
Comments:My chair, which I've had for about 4 months, is the Permobil CK2S. The CK2S is Permobil's Chairman 2K with the C2S (high speed) upgrade. It also has their Enhanced Steering Performance (ESP) system. The chair comes with elevate and tilt functions; mine also includes the recline and leg-rest elevate options. It is a front-wheel drive chair. I used a Chairman for four years before I got my CK2S. After spending a week back in the Chairman while the CK2S was being repaired, I can say that it is a great improvement. It is faster, its shock absorbing suspension system makes for a more comfortable ride, and the ESP system greatly reduces fish-tailing at high speed that is a problem for front-wheel drive chairs. It seems ruggedly constructed, and is better looking. All in all, I have found it an excellent chair—maneuverable enough for crowded indoor use and powerful enough for getting around outdoors. It's top speed is around 7 mph. Although there are chairs with higher top speeds on the market, I can't imagine going faster in New York City where I live, and most of the time I use the lower speed.

As a high-end chair, the CK2S is not inexpensive. It's also technologically complex--not the kind of thing you can take to local bicycle mechanic. Anyone considering the CK2S should give careful consideration to the DME-provider's ability and willingness to service the chair expeditiously. I have found Permobil's tech support to be excellent, but the two local providers I have dealt with have been disappointing. Much as I like the chair, if I had to choose between it with my current provider and a different but comparable chair with a really dependable provider, I would choose the latter in an instant.
