Charles from Leander, Texas submitted this review on July 1st 2011 at 06:22 PM. Charles is an end user who has over ten years of experience with the product.
Strengths:Fast 7.5 mph, solid, never a breakdown or service so far between 2002 and 2011 (9 years.), good looks, purple color. The original batteries and tires lasted 7 years!!! A first for me. The second set of batteries only lasted two + years and counting.
Weaknesses:The only complaint concerns the foot rests. The right side foot rest plate came new with a slight twist inward like it was crashed into something, and there is no way to adjust it. After 7 years, I purchased another set of footrests which were only a little better. At least the front wheel doesn’t hit the foot plate any more. The front wheels will sometimes hit my heels because I don’t like to use heel loops. Because the foot plates are about 3 inches from the ground, I have gotten stuck in rough terrain about 3 times. The power wheels will just spin if you get into too rough uneven terrain. If t doesn’t get stuck, it has enough power to climb and power through most anything.
Comments:I take good care of my chairs, but I don’t baby them. The majority of mileage put on this chair is running my two big dogs (one at a time) around the neighborhood on the street at 7.5 mph and in grass and rough dirt and rocks in the Texas heat 6 days a week for about 4 miles a day. I can’t believe I have never so much as replaced a screw in this chair all these years. I’m currently ordering a Permobil M300 with tilt, recline, rise, and all the bells and whistles. But I plan to keep using the Xterra to run my dogs.

Larry from Magnolia , KY submitted this review on August 19th 2007 at 11:27 PM. Larry is an end user who has over a year of experience with the product.
Strengths:A very fast and reliable power wheel chair, provides all my needs with ease.
Weaknesses:I personally have not found any weaknesses in my chair, after using it since 2000. Almost every day usage inside and outside, with more usage on the outside. I live in the country, and the roads and places I have to travel on are much to be desired, for a handicap person like myself!
Comments:I will and have recommended this model chair to all my friends. I can say truly, that this is my favorite built power chair to date.
Some others have commented, on weak motors and poor controllers, but I have used mine in many outdoor places under many different trains and I will say you will have to go a very long way to beat the performance of this chair.

Chuck from Dallas, Tx, USA submitted this review on July 25th 2006 at 11:54 PM. Chuck is an end user who has over a year of experience with the product.
Strengths:
Weaknesses:Gearboxes seals leak oil. Oil gets into 4 pole motors. Replacement cost about $1500.00 installed.
Comments:New motors 7 months old and brakes are worse than the brakes on old motors. Repair estament is $300.00

Strengths:
Weaknesses:
Comments:Easy to manuver, tight turning radius, great speed and full recline makes it very comfortable. Full leg raise manually on mine and it is durable. takes uneven terrain very well too.

James from Jeffersonville, Vermont submitted this review on January 31st 2006 at 06:54 PM. James is an end user who has over a year of experience with the product.
Strengths:It works great inside as long as the batteries are fully charged. Outwise the control function gets flakey. Main frame is strong, but the leg rests are pretty cheap and seem to break a lot of bolts.
Weaknesses:Do not expect it to climb a curb as advertised. SureStep is a joke. If you get on uneven ground you lose traction because the four outside corners are where the weight is distributed and the drive wheels are without traction. Even indoors if the rear wheels get into position that they are 180 degrees turned it acts like an anchor has been put out and the chair is stuck. Outdoors it will lock you to a stop, that without help you will just sit there.
Comments:I must warn you that Invacare NEW motors and controllers might have a major flaw. They have programmed the controllers to shut down and go into a protective mode on all the new wheelchair controllers in order to save the motors from overheating and burning out. By doing this in my XterraGT I went thru two chairs and three different NEW controller / motor sets before having them install an older set that did not have all the protection built into it.
I was supposed to have the MKIV-RII 80 amp controller; that didn't happen even though it was billed to Medicare as though I did.
With the first three units I would go 100 feet and the motors would start slowing down to a crawl and then stop dead because the motors were warm. I could not even go up a ramp without it cutting out. And if you shut it off to try and trick the controller into thinking that you had just stated to use it, the controller had memory of events and still would not run correctly. I believe they gave me the older control/ motor set hoping that it might last before my warranty runs out and they would have to replace them. It has been to their advantage that I spent 6 months last year in the hospital and have not been as active as normal prior to and after the hospital time, so the chair has not been pushed very hard for the last year.

Stephen from Charlottetown, PE submitted this review on November 14th 2003 at 01:46 PM. Stephen is an end user who has over a year of experience with the product.
Strengths:Agility, this chair is so easy to drive and manuever, inside and outside. I climbs hills pretty well, even on grass, it goes on dirt trails. After using a rear wheel drive chair, I wonder how I did it. I have the captain's seat back and a Roho Quatro seat - very comfortable. The battery lasts all day and charges over-night (6 - 8 hours). The chair has survived a few outdoor showers, gardening, washing the driveway, hauling logs and brush(oh did I tell you it is a 'working chair'). I love my chair and would get another in a heart beat. The chair is also very stylish and doesn't look like a wheelchair (still trying to be a passer)
Weaknesses:Some say it is not good for quads. I had an arm break off and land me on the floor. I wish it had an ignition lock and a better horn. The cane holder was really stupid and my supplier sub'd one from Prime.
Comments:I had lots of chatter on wheelchairjunkie on this chair. They are all nuts for the Blast and I wonder why. People who use this chair love it. It is a major improvement over the clunky chairs they are making for people.
