Tim from St. Charles, IL, United States submitted this review on March 18th 2008 at 10:25 AM. Tim is a care giver who has over a year of experience with the product.
Strengths:Stability, stability, stability! Our daughter has OI, so she can't be jostled or tipped. A charging bull could plow into this thing and it would stay upright. The raise/descend functionality was great while our daughter was younger, now she just climbs in. I also find the controls very flexible and easy to master.
Weaknesses:This brute is *heavy*. We have had some durability issues with it, though generally it has been peripherals that have failed: foot-rest, arm-rest, headlights, etc. The main body, chair, and batteries have never given us trouble. Turning circle is wide, which makes it a difficult thing to manage in most people's houses.
Comments:For children in a fragile state I would say this is a sure bet. It functions great in public places: school, hospital, stores, movie theatres, etc. A little more of a management issue in a residential setting, so we use ours in that arena as little as possible. We had one for *ten years* and replaced it with the exact same unit when it was time for a new one. We are very pleased.

Tara from Thorsby, Alabama, USA submitted this review on July 26th 2005 at 09:32 PM. Tara is a care giver who has over a year of experience with the product.
Strengths:Very versitile, a definite treat to the child who cannot get to the floor himself. That was the selling feature for me so that he could pick things up and play with other children at ground level.
Weaknesses:Unfortunately this chair has many. VERY wide turn radius, very undependable as far as the joystick (we've replaced 3). Switches that control the up and down have been a constant failure. The first 8 months we put in the shop and had service calls too many to count. (This as you know is an inconvience for your primary chair). Very HEAVY. Don't buy the KNEE blockers you cannot use the up and down if you do.
Comments:We are looking for another chair currently and we I would not replace this chair with 2 just like if you gave them to me. I know people that have had great luck but we definately got a LEMON and Tennessee service was NO help. I will not be buying another permobil needless to say. The features are great but not if it's broke all the time.

Cindy from Albuquerque, NM submitted this review on February 7th 2005 at 10:28 AM. Cindy is a care giver who has one to six months of experience with the product.
Strengths:This chair gives children with significant mobility issues access to the ground with no effort and they are able to reach things that they aren't able to in other wheelchairs. My son has this chair and I couldn't recommend a better chair for a child with limb differences or Muscular Dystrophy or anything similar.
Weaknesses:It is a much larger chair than most. It took my son some time to get used to the length of this chair. It's also a very heavy chair so you need a van with a good lift or ramp. The chair weighs 280 pounds.
Comments:This chair is highly recommended for any child who would benefit from being able to play at their peers level and it also allows them to reach higher surfaces they wouldn't typically be able to reach with other wheelchairs.

Chad from Melbourne, Florida, USA submitted this review on August 19th 2003 at 11:27 AM. Chad is an end user who has one to six months of experience with the product.
Strengths:Heavy, long charge, can reach new levels both high and low, can get down from chair easily. Long charge. Goes through all kinds of terrain. Will NOT tip over! Low low center of gravity, even when raised all the way up.
Weaknesses:Hard to turn, bigger turning radius than most front wheel drive chairs. Big back end. Heavy! Hard to lift. Slow speed.
Comments:Being a power chair user since age 7, this is the BEST one I have EVER owned, surpassed my Fortress quite easily. So versitile and smooth.
