Strengths:Very rugged, handles abuse well. Easy to adapt for low gear range needed by my impaired ankle. Comfortable for long rides and good control even with heavy loads. Breaks down for airline luggage size. 20" tires easy to find in bike shops.
Weaknesses:Must break down for ADA requirements public transportation access. Police and many USA authorities refuse to recognize unit as legal wheelchair because of leg power, even with clear ADA and DMV disabled markings.
A bit expensive and more rolling resistance than racing trike.
Does not handle being run over by drunk drivers well.
Comments:The motion of recumbent pedaling is excelent therapy for my ankle which was destroyed in auto accident. Reduced arthritus pain and longer walking distance are direct result. Also excellent cardio vascular workout and no need to balance. Recumbent allows lower heart rate for same output of power over upright.
This is one of the best choices for long distance touring. Take a look at the Greenspeed GTE for a non breakdown trike for heavier use. Greenspeed can also design trikes for most disability issues.
