Cindy from Chicago, IL, USA submitted this review on November 30th 2011 at 04:40 PM. Cindy is a care giver who has over a year of experience with the product.
Strengths:Can attach to existing wheelchair or can buy scalamobile with attached chair.
Weaknesses:Device is very heavy especially when used with a custom wheelchair. Also caregiver must walk upstairs backward bearing some of the the weight of wheelchair, patient and scalamobile against one thigh and balancing with hands. The back wheels of wheelchair only sit in 2 seperate grooves not a platform. Not safe when going up a long flight of stairs.
Comments:We were trained by vendor to use the scalamobile. However, fell down stairs twice with patient when scalamobile skipped a stair, and fell forward. Thank God we were only on the 5th or 6th step the first time we fell. Months later tried a 2nd time and fell down 3 stairs. Device then locked. Will not use it again.
